Jane Bauer

I emerged into this world with a complicated personality.
Later in life, this resulted in being labeled as "intense"
as in "You are too intense. Lighten-up." I have
overcome major shyness, a characteristic which
contributed to the low self-confidence that still plagues
me, yet appears to be receding!
My two older sisters and I were the first generation born
in the U.S. in our family. Our parents were from Turkey.
They came here to escape the dire circumstances of the
ending of the Ottoman Empire in the beginning of the
20th century. They were Assyrian/Arrmenian by
ethnicity, living in a country that treated them with
hostility, including a genocide of their ethnic groups
during and immediately after WW I. I was born the first
year designated as "The Baby-Boom Generation" and
am only now beginning to understand how much these
happenings affected their view of the world and how this
was passed on to their offspring. I grew up with a sense
of continual fear and developed a lack of confidence in
my own ability to navigate through life.
Today, I believe my life has psychologically prepared me
for the complications of the world's current conditions
and its transformation. My belief is that this shift makes
positive change in our thinking necessary and urgent.
My own self-evolution to a place of realization that my
path of searching and seeking for the past 20 years was
less about finding my own individual identity (although
this has been gravely beneficial) and more about being
on a journey called LIFE, with its many ups and downs,
twists and turns. However, I do think I had a front row
seat!
The circumstances of my life gave me the opportunity to
gain an M.A. degree in Rehabilitation Counseling
from the U. of South FL with professors who practiced
Humanistic Psychology. This contributed to my
becoming a student of metaphysics in Sarasota, FL
where I was introduced to IONS about 10 years ago.
I am grateful that there is a local IONS group in Ocala,
where I've lived for 2 1/2 years. I am most content when
I feel inspired and have contact with others who inspire
me. People who support the IONS principles of
exploration (both self and holistic) and
open-mindedness while maintaining a commitment to
scientific principles are among those people. I love the
safety this group provides for self-expression.
